This is an image of “sand” under a microscope with 400x objective(magnification). I used two polarizers, one on the camera and one over the microscope’s light source to get this effect and color. This is straight from the camera with no added effects, adjustment, or any digital modification! This bit of sand was found in garden soil, not from beach sand. By “sand” I just mean a mineral bigger than silt or clay, estimated actual size is about 100 µm. By the color difference this particular bit of “sand” is likely an aggregate of a few different elements. Is also a focal stacked image, meaning I took several pictures at different focus then stacked them up so everything is in focus.
